SCHIEDAM – In 2024, VETUS, the Dutch developer of boat systems, will move into newly built offices in the same Schiedam neighborhood where Willem den Ouden founded the company 60 years ago.
The new 9,500 m² headquarters offers better working conditions, testing and showcase facilities and space for in-water product testing. The building will be almost energy-neutral, courtesy of rooftop solar panels and a heat pump system.
CEO Marcel Borsboom says that after 50 years in Schiedam’s Fokkerstraat, “it’s exciting to be moving into this impressive headquarters … This light, bright, modern facility has been designed with the latest thinking on maximizing staff wellbeing and effective collaboration.”
VETUS has significantly increased its global footprint in recent years by opening new branch offices and expanding regional teams worldwide, triggering hefty sales increases.
The company said its FY2022 sales were 40% above FY2019. VETUS sees a bright future following key partnerships with Yamaha and Mercury and successful launches of innovative products in its electric propulsion ranges, BOW PRO thrusters and connected systems.
The new headquarters, in a neighborhood that is fast becoming a marine cluster, reflects the company’s confidence. In recent years, several plots have been (re)developed into high-quality maritime industry office buildings and light-industrial businesses.
VETUS is part of YANMAR Marine International. With YANMAR and its companies, including Smartgyro, Flexofold and GetMyBoat, VETUS aims to enhance the boating experience.
VETUS was founded in 1964. It designs and manufactures onboard boat systems—such as engines, generators, bow thrusters and control panels—for recreational and small commercial vessels. The majority of its 4,000+ products is developed in-house.
