SCHIEDAM – Ground has been broken for a new head office and warehouse for Vetus, underlining the Dutch boat system maker’s growth ambitions.
The new 9,500m² facility will double the company’s warehouse space from the current capacity. It will open for business at the end of 2024.
The new complex will be energy-frugal. Rooftop solar panels will generate much of the energy needed. No natural gas will be used for heating, but advanced heat pumps.
That fits with Vetus’ sustainability ethos and the Yanmar Green Challenge 2050. An ambitious company-wide goal to fundamentally transform business operations by eliminating greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions in all operations, production and
products by 2050.
The new warehouse will be equipped with the latest developments in automated storage and retrieval systems and will have a significantly larger pallet capacity than the current Vetus warehouse.
This will allow the company to store, process and ship products more efficiently.
The new headquarters will rise in the same Schiedam neighborhood near Rotterdam, where the company founder Willem den Ouden was born.
Vetus says the building will be ready in late 2024 and offer better facilities to showcase products and conduct in-water tests with dedicated mooring spaces for Vetus demo boats.
The new facility underscores Vetus’ growth strategy, which was initiated a few years ago. It will feature automated storage and retrieval systems and have a larger pallet capacity than is currently the case, helping Vetus store, process, and ship products much more efficiently.
