Color matching is a fundamental skill in damage repair. The aesthetic result requires an exact match to the color of the original steel. At IJssel Coatings, this process is aided by deploying a new Spectro 700 from Datacolor.
The spectrophotometer has been used at IJssel Coatings for years and enables accurate color measurement. The Spectro 700 offers the flexibility to analyze different types of samples, contributing to its ability to reproduce various colors from different materials, such as coatings and polyester gel coats.
However, the company says this is only the starting point. “Our experienced colorists,” it adds, “produce the matched color. Armed with extensive knowledge, they meticulously translate the data obtained with the new photo spectrometer into an accurate color formulation. This process demands technical expertise and a keen eye for detail to match the nuances of the color perfectly.” Achieving a successful color match is a collaborative effort.
While De IJssel colorists prepare the supplied sample, the surface is equally crucial. The chances of success are highest when the sample consists of a smooth and even surface, ideally sanded and polished. At IJssel Coatings, we maintain a 2 to 5 working days lead time for both Double Coat and a Poltix color gel coat.

That’s why De Ijssel color pastes are not recommended as a universal tinting system, only for the field of application for which the paste was developed.
