HEEG – Erik van Veen says his motor yachts are not difficult to understand. “The design is like an Aston Martin,” he says. “If you like the lines and features, there is no reason to look any further.” Few people do.
Van Veen has been building semi-custom Da Vinci motor yachts since 2001 and recently sold four 13.4m DaVinci 44 flagships. Three are under construction, and the fourth hull is in production at Adel Polyester, a polyester processing specialist.
“This new model has been in the works for about two-and-a-half years,” Van Veen tells this newsletter. “Initially, we planned to build a 40ft yacht, but to have enough space below deck, that became 44ft yacht. Many DaVinci owners have been asking for a larger boat for a long time.”
Van Veen sells Da Vincis worldwide through dealers in Europe and the US. Da Vinci yachts are designed and drawn by Vripack and are known for their easy handling and comfort at all speeds on all waters.
The flagship 44ft version has two cabins. The owner’s cabin is up front with a skylight that continues into the next room with seating to port. At starboard is a wet room with a separate shower and toilet.
The steering position is located in a cockpit area with an L-bench to port. The galley is located behind the helm seat. The cockpit features two comfortable benches and additional seating space. The entire cockpit can be covered with a tent. The yard can also build a closed, hard top version.
Powering the Da Vinci 44 are two Volvo Penta D6 diesels of 340HP and stern drives with duo-props. The craft’s top speed is 30 knots. With a SidePower proportional bow and stern thruster, the boat is easy to maneuver when docking and mooring. “We continue to build our other models,” says Van Veen. “At the moment we have sold nine of them: four DaVinci 30s, a 32S and another four 35s versions are now in build.”
