MIAMI — At the 2024 Miami International Boat Show, Vaan Yachts of the Netherlands reeled in a Multihull of the Year nomination for a second consecutive year. The nomination was for its 14.9m (49ft) Vaan R5 luxury yacht. In 2023, the Dutch builder’s 12.8m (42ft) Vaan R4 won a nomination. Both are highly sustainable yachts.

The 2024 nomination was made at the Miami International Boat Show (Feb. 14-18).  MOTY organizer Multihulls-World praised the R5 for its “meticulous design, remarkable cruising comfort and good performance potential.”

The election outcome will be announced on April 3 at the International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte in the South of France.

Multihulls-World test-sailed the R5 in waters off the yard’s home in the Netherlands. “Vaan Yachts is clearly showing its ambitions with this R5,” the magazine said, “barely a year after presenting its little sibling, the R4.”

The 2024 nomination coincided with Vaan Yachts’ fifth anniversary.

Co-founder Igor Kluin rocked the Dutch high-end yacht market in 2019 with an electrically powered, ‘forever green’ multihull craft. Vaan Yachts are made of truly sustainable and circular materials: recycled aluminium hulls, FSC-certified cork decks and 5-star hotel interiors that hold recycled fabrics.

Kluin says his Vaan R5 is designed to “explore the most distant places and faraway islands. A spacious sailing machine for couples to large families. And like every Vaan, it is made of circular materials and is almost entirely recyclable.”

The Vaan R5’s open spaciousness of the R5 transforms this sailing cat into your penthouse on the water. Even with a family of six, you can spend a year exploring the planet. The kitchen has all the features you find at home.
