AMSTERDAM—Terry Hutchinson, the experienced skipper and Operations President of the New York Yacht Club American Magic, will address marine professionals at the opening-day breakfast of the 2024 Metstrade show here.
The twice named US Sailing’s Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, Hutchinson has participated in five AC campaigns and has won seventeen world championships in the Farr 40, IMS, J/24, TP 52 classes in addition to the Maxi 72, and Maxi Class.
Metstrade is the world’s largest trade exhibition for equipment, materials and systems for the global leisure marine industry. Hutchinson will deliver the keynote address at the Metstrade ICOMIA breakfast briefing. Organizers say the recreational marine equipment industry can learn much from the technological requirements of any successful AC campaign.
The Metstrade organization has named American Magic a 2024 Metstrade partner. Hutchinson will also meet with members of the Metstrade Young Professionals Club. “All the things that go into a successful America’s Cup team apply to a lot of different areas of our sport,” he says.
“Taking what we learn and transferring it over is a massive win for the marine industry, as is the work we do on careers and educational development.”
Over the years, the breakfast meeting has featured many notable speakers. It is organized by ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations). It takes place at 8 AM on Nov. 19 and is open to Metstrade exhibitors, Metstrade’s Young Professionals Club members, trade media and VIPs.
Held at the RAI events center, the annual show targets a global audience of yacht builders, naval architects, refit yards, distributors, dealers, wholesalers, captains, marina owners and marine equipment manufacturers. The 2024 edition will run from Nov. 19-21.
Based in Pensacola, Fla., American Magic was formed in 2017 to represent the New York Yacht Club in the 36th AC. Terry Hutchinson skippered the team. The team made a promising start when racing began in Auckland but suffered a catastrophic accident in the Prada Cup challenger series.
For the 37th AC series this year, the team has improved its Auckland infrastructure at the MB92 superyacht facility in Barcelona. Patriot, its latest AC75, was built and launched ahead of schedule, enabling the team to start many long hours of on-water testing on its race boat in late May.
